Scholarship

Saul Levmore is a scholar of law and economics, though his research and teaching cover a wide range of topics, including torts, corporations and corporate law, non-profit organizations, comparative law, public choice, copyright, and contracts. His recent interests concern insurance, terrorism, real and intellectual property rights, information markets, and the regulation of obesity. Levmore has served as an advisor on corporate governance issues and development strategies.

Levmore is known for his Public Choice Theory class and has been recognized by the student population for his talents as a teacher several times. Alex Hartzler, ’12, praised Levmore for deftly weaving together the qualities of a preeminent legal educator: “the Socratic law professor, the earnestly curious thinker, the scathing comedian, the master orator.” [“Levmore, Perry Honored by Graduating Students”]

In addition to more than 100 scholarly articles and chapters, Levmore has co-edited several books, including Power, Prose, and Purse: Law, Literature, and Economic Transformations (2019); The Timing of Lawmaking (2017); American Guy: Masculinity in American Law and Literature (2014); The Offensive Internet: Speech, Privacy and Reputation (2011); and Foundations of Tort Law (2009). He has also written books on aging as well as games and puzzles.
