Abstract
Dean Casper reviews the past, present, and future of the Law School. The Law School's foundational principle of interdisciplinary studies resulted in an exceptional faculty dedicated to creating learned professional lawyers. First-year students are taught core curriculum; extra-curricular activities remain an important aspect of the law school's program; and the Law School produces several highly-respected journals. The Law and Economics field developed at Chicago's Law School, and the Law School runs programs dedicated to criminal justice and legal history. But, Dean Casper notes, the law school continues to face challenges, the most significant of which is financial.
