Abstract
Interviews with the few Law School alumni who have started their own independent law firms and the reasons they chose to go solo (or small) -- usually because of a desire to work at a place that fit their work philosophy. Some of the alumni started with partners and known clients, while others forged ahead without any business contacts. All emphasized the importance of networking and communication in the success of their practices.
