Abstract
Professor Kaplan reviews Workman in the Law: The Opinions of Judge Ulysses S. Schwartz, an edited compilation of Illinois Appellate Court Judge Schwartz's opinions. Praising Judge Schwartz's writing style, respect for precedent, and concern for the social implications of the law, Professor Kaplan selects several sample opinions to illustrate his points. As a collection of opinions by an appellate state judge, the book is a rare breed, though Professor Kaplan criticizes some of the editorial arrangements, particularly the fact that the opinions are ordered by subject rather than by date.
